Fire Extinguisher Self-Check

The EH&S Fire/Life Safety Department is responsible for servicing and maintaining over 2,000 fire extinguishers on and near the OSU campus. A single staff member is responsible to physically inspect every extinguisher each year in over 150 buildings.

Fire extinguishers are an important part of the overall campus fire safety program and it is critical each and every extinguisher is ready to go at any time day or night. As such, we are requesting the assistance of Building Managers and staff to assist with this inspection process when possible.

The Oregon Fire Code and OSHA require that fire extinguishers being visually inspected each month (as well as a more comprehensive annual inspection). EH&S is requesting that Building Managers or another building staff member conduct this very simple monthly visual inspection. This is a voluntary function and if you feel you are not able to see that this gets done please send an Email to the address included on this site and specify your name, position and building and we’ll ensure the monthly visual inspections are completed another way.

If you are willing to complete this task, please follow the procedures outlined on this web page and complete the inspection by the 20th of each month and log your inspection and any deficiencies noted by that date.

Your assistance in helping to keep OSU buildings, faculty, staff and students safe is greatly appreciated.
