Oregon State University Chemical Hygiene Plan (OSU CHP) (PDF)
The OSU Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) applies to all employees working on laboratory scale operations involving laboratory use of hazardous chemicals. The purpose of the CHP is to provide guidance and protocols for the protection of employees and visitors at Oregon State University (OSU) from the potential health hazards associated with chemicals used in the laboratory.
The OSU CHP is not sufficiently detailed to address every laboratory practice, process, procedure, or piece of equipment used in each laboratory at OSU. Each Laboratory Supervisor/Principal Investigator (LS/PI) shall develop and maintain their own laboratory-specific CHP (LCHP), which shall contain detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) for each potentially hazardous laboratory process, procedure, and major piece of equipment used in his or her laboratory(ies). The LCHP Template below is provided as a Microsoft Word document to aid LSs/PIs in creating their own LCHP.
Laboratory-Specific Chemical Hygiene Plan Template (Word)
Note: The LCHP is a living document that each LS/PI shall create, then alter/update as new information regarding safety, laboratory best practices, regulations, and procedures is discovered and as materials, processes, and equipment are added to or removed from the LS’s/PI’s laboratory(ies).
